Central China Tornado Causes 11 Deaths and Widespread Damage

At least 11 people have died after a powerful tornado swept through several cities in Hubei province, estimates from state‑run media. The violent storm damaged thousands of buildings and caused over 300 injuries, according to local emergency officials. A student in Huanggang described the event as unexpectedly chaotic. He told reporters that he had presumed the weather was an ordinary thunderstorm until debris and shattered glass began flying through the windows of his dormitory. The attack on the campus led to significant injuries among students and residents alike.

This tornado is among the most intense in the region, with the last such event recorded only in 2021. Emergency crews are currently conducting search, rescue, and medical aid while assessments continue.
