Five more suspects have been arrested over their involvement in the Louvre heist, Paris' public prosecutor has announced. These individuals were taken into custody late Wednesday night in the Paris region, according to Laure Beccuau's office.

A main suspect was among those detained, AFP reported. These new arrests follow an earlier incident where two men partially recognized their participation in the brazen theft.

On October 19, four thieves broke into the Louvre in broad daylight, making off with items valued at around €88 million (£76 million; $102 million). As of Thursday, the jewels have yet to be recovered, Beccuau confirmed during an interview with French radio station RTL.

Additionally, she noted that DNA evidence from one of the detainees might be linked to the crime scene. While French investigators remain tight-lipped on specifics, new suspects can be held for up to four days before any charges or release.

The authorities suspect that the gang behind the heist may involve more members than those seen on CCTV footage.
