The remains of at least 50 infants and six adults have been discovered dumped at a graveyard in Trinidad and Tobago, as announced by the police service (TTPS). The bodies were found in Cumuto, located approximately 40 kilometers from the capital, Port of Spain.

A preliminary investigation suggests that this may be a case of unlawful disposal of unclaimed corpses. Authorities are exploring whether this incident is connected to the country's increasing issues with gang violence, given its significant murder rate.

According to a police statement, five out of the six adults found had identification tags, and two appeared to have undergone post-mortem examinations. Police Commissioner Allister Guevarro described the discovery as deeply troubling, asserting that any person or institution found culpable will be held accountable.

The current state of emergency in Trinidad, which grants police extended powers to search and arrest, has been in effect since March 2. The U.S. State Department has also issued several travel advisories related to crime and terrorism risks in the country.

Despite a reduction in violent crime in Trinidad and Tobago since 2024, security challenges persist, indicating ongoing concerns regarding public safety.
