A tragic shooting incident occurred on Saturday evening at the American Fish Company in Southport, North Carolina, resulting in three fatalities and several injuries. According to city spokesperson ChyAnn Ketchum, the incident began around 9:30 PM local time when a boat approached the dock and the shooter opened fire on the patrons.
Witnesses reported chaos as bystanders took cover in response to the sudden attack. The assailant fled the scene immediately, retreating by boat towards the Intracoastal Waterway.
Less than an hour later, a suspect fitting the description was apprehended 12 miles away by the US Coast Guard in Oak Island. The police have yet to release the name of the suspect, and investigations are ongoing.
Southport Police Chief Todd Coring expressed the gravity of the incident, describing it as a very tragic night for their tight-knit community of under 4,000 residents. He stated that about six individuals were injured and were receiving medical attention, while the deceased have not been publicly identified.
The police issued a warning for residents to stay indoors during their active investigation, but Chief Coring later reassured the public by stating that there are no further threats to community safety.
