More than 120,000 people have gathered in Douala, Cameroon, to witness Pope Leo XIV's open-air Mass, marking one of the largest gatherings during his 11-day tour of Africa.

Arriving in the economic city on Friday, the Pope reiterated his message of peace following a visit to the Anglophone region, which has been marred by conflict for over a decade. He emphasized the importance of spiritual growth and encouraged the youth to harness their talents in support of their communities.

The event saw Pope Leo wave to jubilant crowds from his Popemobile as he entered the Japoma Stadium, where worshippers from diverse backgrounds and ages braved the heat to participate.

Many attendees camped outside the stadium overnight to secure a prime spot to hear the Pope's address, showcasing a profound desire for peace in war-torn regions. Reject every form of abuse or violence, he urged, highlighting the temptations that can derail societal progress.

The Pope's journey through Africa marks a historic moment, starting with visits to Algeria, and will conclude with stops in Angola and Equatorial Guinea. His presence is seen as a beacon of hope amidst ongoing struggles in the region.
